The iPhone 13 Pro Max is a smartphone designed and marketed by Apple, announced on September 14, 2021, and released on September 24, 2021, as the largest model of the iPhone 13 generation. With camera parity restored across the Pro tier, the Max's exclusive reverted to what its size buys: the 6.7-inch ProMotion display and a 4,352 mAh battery that delivered the best endurance ever measured on an iPhone — routinely nine-plus hours of screen time in testing, a result that led reviews of the entire generation.
Otherwise it is the iPhone 13 Pro at scale: the all-new triple camera with 3× telephoto and macro, ProRes and Cinematic video, the five-GPU A15, the 1 TB option, Sierra Blue and later Alpine Green. Reviewers named it the best phone of 2021 with unusual unanimity — the size, as ever, the only argument. It was discontinued after the customary year, succeeded by the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
The generation's stainless Pro design at maximum scale: 160.8 × 78.1 × 7.65 mm and 238 g, the heaviest iPhone made to that point — battery and camera glass conceding nothing to the scale. The smaller notch, the enlarged diagonal-set lens plateau, five finishes with Alpine Green joining in March 2022, Ceramic Shield, IP68, MagSafe.
The 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR ProMotion panel — 2778 × 1284, 10–120 Hz adaptive, 1,000 nits outdoor peak — was the largest and best display shipped on an iPhone, and the adaptive refresh meant the big panel finally cost nothing at idle. For video, reading, and the camera viewfinder it was the generation's showcase.

The 4,352 mAh cell — 18% beyond the 12 Pro Max — combined with ProMotion's idle savings and the A15's efficiency into the endurance result that defined the phone: two-day light use, all-day heavy use, the longest-lasting iPhone by every methodology. The five-core-GPU A15, 6 GB of RAM, and the 1 TB ProRes-ready ceiling matched the 13 Pro exactly.
Identical to the iPhone 13 Pro — the parity was the point, after the 12 year's size-gated sensor. The f/1.5 stabilized main, 3× telephoto, macro ultra-wide, ProRes, and Cinematic mode, with the Max serving as the better tripod: more mass, more battery for long ProRes shoots, and the bigger viewfinder.
iOS 15 at launch (ProRes via 15.1); current release train since.
The Pro Max led the generation's sales mix and its reviews: "best phone money can buy" verdicts were near-unanimous, with the battery the headline and the 238-gram mass the caveat. It anchored Apple's record holiday quarter through the chip-shortage winter and was discontinued on September 7, 2022.
The 13 Pro Max set the endurance record that became the Max tier's standing promise, and demonstrated the mature form of the four-model lineup: parity within the Pro tier, size as the only question. Its combination — biggest display, longest battery, full camera — remains the exact formula of the current iPhone 17 Pro Max.
