The iPhone 16 Plus is a smartphone designed and marketed by Apple, announced on September 9, 2024, and released on September 20, 2024 — the 6.7-inch companion to the iPhone 16, and the final iPhone to carry the Plus name. It delivered the generation's complete kit at the big-base tier: the A18 with 8 GB of RAM and full Apple Intelligence support, both new buttons (Action and Camera Control), the vertical Fusion camera pair with spatial capture, Wi-Fi 7, and the format's traditional advantage — battery life at or near the top of the whole lineup.
At $899 it repeated the settled Plus proposition (maximum screen and endurance, minimum premium) for an audience by now well mapped. When the 17 generation arrived in September 2025, the Plus slot went to the thin iPhone Air — but the 16 Plus itself remains on sale in Apple's prior-generation tier as of 2026, giving the Plus name an afterlife its replacement's launch didn't end.
1 Design✎
The 16's saturated color-infused design at 160.9 × 77.8 × 7.8 mm and 199 g — Ultramarine, Teal, Pink, White, Black — with the vertical camera pill, Dynamic Island, Camera Control key, Ceramic Shield, IP68, and MagSafe. Against the titanium iPhone 16 Pro Max it gave up ProMotion and a lens but weighed 28 grams less.

The 4,674 mAh cell — the largest yet in a base-tier iPhone — behind a 60 Hz panel once again produced endurance rivaling or beating the Pro Max, extending the Plus tier's standing secret. Everything else matched the iPhone 16 exactly.
3 Camera✎
Identical to the 16: the Fusion 48 MP with 2× crop tier, macro ultra-wide, spatial capture, live Photographic Styles, and the Camera Control key. The Pro gap remained the 5× telephoto and 48 MP ultra-wide.
4 Software✎
iOS 18 at launch, Apple Intelligence from 18.1 onward; current release train since.
5 Release and reception✎
Reviewed as the settled formula it was — "the 16, but you'll charge it less" — with the battery numbers earning their annual headline and the $899 slot no longer questioned. It sold to its established constituency through the flagship year and moved to the $799 prior-gen tier in September 2025, where it remains on sale.
6 Legacy✎
The last Plus closes a name that served three distinct eras — the 2014 phablets, the 2022 revival, and this final refinement — always meaning the same thing: the most screen and battery per dollar in the lineup. Its replacement, the iPhone Air, traded that exact proposition for thinness, making the 16 Plus the format's definitive endpoint and, for its partisans, the argument that never got a rematch.
