The iPhone 16 Pro is a smartphone designed and marketed by Apple, announced on September 9, 2024, and released on September 20, 2024, with the iPhone 16 Pro Max and base 16 models. The size-exclusive era ended again: the smaller Pro received the tetraprism 5× telephoto the iPhone 15 Pro had been denied, alongside a display grown to 6.3 inches within nearly the same body, the A18 Pro, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide completing the high-resolution trio, and 4K 120 fps Dolby Vision video — the generation's showpiece camera spec.
Camera Control arrived tier-wide; the Pros added studio-quality microphones and Audio Mix, machine-learning separation of voice from background recorded in video. Desert Titanium replaced Blue in the finish set. The 16 Pro pair served the customary flagship year before the iPhone 17 Pro generation succeeded it in September 2025.

Grade-5 titanium at 199 g with the generation's thinnest bezels around the enlarged 6.3-inch panel — the footprint grew barely a millimeter. Natural, Desert, White, and Black Titanium; Camera Control beneath the Action Button on the right edge; Ceramic Shield (a new harder generation), IP68, MagSafe at 25 W.

The A18 Pro's larger caches, six-core ray-tracing GPU, and doubled Neural Engine bandwidth aimed squarely at Apple Intelligence and the 4K 120 pipeline; a 20% larger battery cell and better thermals fixed the 15 Pro's throttling complaints. Wi-Fi 7 and 25 W MagSafe matched the generation.
3 Camera✎
The trio went high-resolution: the new 48 MP ultra-wide brought macro and wide shots to parity with the Fusion main, the 5× tetraprism reached both Pro sizes at last, and 4K at 120 fps in Dolby Vision — with post-capture speed ramping in Photos — gave the video story its annual first. Audio Mix's in-frame/studio/cinematic voice isolation made the microphone array a reviewable feature for the first time. Camera testing again ranked the system the year's most complete.

5 Release and reception✎
With the Max's size premium no longer buying camera hardware, the 6.3-inch Pro reviewed as the sane flagship: every capability, one hand. The Apple Intelligence rollout's slow drip — the selling point arriving quarterly — was the cycle's recurring criticism, aimed at marketing more than hardware. Solid Pro-led sales carried to the September 9, 2025 handover to the iPhone 17 Pro.
6 Legacy✎
The 16 Pro finished the Pro camera's resolution transition (all-48 MP capture across wide and ultra-wide), delivered the 4K 120 benchmark rivals spent the next year chasing, and — with camera parity restored — reset the Pro/Max choice to pure size preference, where the iPhone 17 Pro generation keeps it. Desert Titanium closed the titanium era's palette; its successor returned to aluminum.
