Riata Vista Circle is Apple's first big home in Austin: the Americas Operations Center announced in 2012 and opened in 2016, which grew into the company's largest site outside California. Its work is the unglamorous machinery of the ecosystem — AppleCare support, supply-chain and finance operations, and engineering teams including silicon work far from Cupertino's spotlight.

The campus proved Austin could absorb Apple at scale, seeding the decision to build the far larger Austin Campus three miles away. Together the two sites make Austin Apple's second city — operations and, at the nearby factory, the Mac Pro line that lets Apple say a flagship is assembled in the United States.
