The Apple C1X doubled the C1's speed and, by Apple's telling, used thirty percent less energy than the Qualcomm modem in the iPhone 16 Pro — efficiency that made the impossibly thin iPhone Air possible. Paired there with the N1 networking chip, it made the Air the first iPhone whose every radio is Apple's own.

Still current: promoted into the iPhone 17e in 2026, the C1X continues the modem line's staged march up the lineup while the flagship iPhone 17 models still buy Qualcomm — the dependency's last stand.
