The Apple M5, launched October 2025 across a same-day trio of MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Apple Vision Pro, brought the Apple A19 generation's signature move to the Mac: a Neural Accelerator in every GPU core, shifting AI throughput into the shader pipeline for roughly four times the M4's peak GPU compute — silicon aimed at running local models, backed by 153 GB/s of memory bandwidth.

The M5 Pro and M5 Max arrived in March 2026's MacBook Pro on a new Fusion Architecture: advanced packaging joins two 3-nanometer dies into one SoC — CPU, GPU, media engine, Neural Engine, memory controller, and Thunderbolt 5 — carrying an 18-core CPU with what Apple calls the world's fastest CPU core, up to a 40-core GPU on the Max, and 614 GB/s of bandwidth. An M5 Ultra is expected in a Mac Studio refresh later in 2026.

Still current: the M5 generation is Apple's AI-compute play made structural — neural hardware in every GPU core below, Fusion-packaged pro dies above. Its Vision Pro debut also made it the first M chip to launch in three product categories at once.
