The Apple A5 is Apple's second system-on-chip, introduced with the iPad 2 in March 2011 and the iPhone 4s that fall — the chip that brought the iPhone dual-core CPU and the graphics headroom (a claimed 7×) behind Siri-era features and the 4s's 1080p video.

The A5 became Apple's longest-serving chip: die-shrunk to 32 nm, it powered iPad minis, iPod touches, and Apple TVs sold into the mid-2010s, making it the volume workhorse of the early ecosystem — and, less happily, the 512 MB-era hardware whose late-life iOS updates taught Apple its support-window lessons.
