Apple Music Classical is the classical-music answer to a streaming problem the pop-built services never solved: finding a specific recording of a specific work. Built from the acquired Primephonic, it searches by composer, work, opus, conductor, orchestra, and soloist — the metadata classical listening actually runs on — across millions of tracks in lossless and Spatial Audio.

The separate app is the point: classical browsing needs different bones than album-and-artist streaming, and Apple chose a dedicated home over a buried tab. Free with Apple Music and later extended beyond the iPhone, it made Apple the major service that took the genre seriously — a small market served disproportionately well, in the audiophile spirit of the lossless catalog.
