iOS 27 is the upcoming twentieth major release of iOS, announced at WWDC26 on June 8, 2026, under the banner "Introducing Siri AI. Truly helpful. Truly yours." The developer beta shipped the day of the keynote and the public beta followed on July 13, 2026; the finished release is expected in fall 2026 alongside the year's new iPhones. As a pre-release version, everything below reflects the beta and may change before launch.
The release is built around Siri AI — the ground-up rebuild of Apple's assistant on a new Apple Intelligence architecture, promised (and postponed) since the iOS 18 era. Siri gains a dedicated app, deeper on-screen awareness and in-app actions, and substantially upgraded voice and dictation, positioning the assistant as the system's primary interface rather than a feature bolted beside it.
Per Apple's WWDC26 presentation and the beta builds: the Siri AI assistant and Siri app with the new architecture; refinements to the Liquid Glass design introduced in iOS 26; Photos gains Spatial Reframing (converting shots to spatial presentations), Extend (generative edge expansion), and improved Clean Up; an updated Image Playground; Call Context in the Phone app; a "Describe a Shortcut" natural-language builder in Shortcuts; Safari, Mail, Calendar, Passwords, Home, and Maps updates; and a substantial parental-controls suite — Ask to Browse, Time Allowances, and Schedules — alongside communication-safety and Screen Time expansions. Apple also emphasizes system performance work.
Apple states iOS 27 supports every device that runs iOS 26: the iPhone 17/Air/17e and iPhone 16 generations back through the iPhone 11 generation and iPhone SE (2nd generation) — carrying the 2019-era hardware into a seventh year of major updates. As with recent releases, the headline Apple Intelligence features require newer, higher-memory hardware.
Beta coverage has centered on whether Siri AI finally delivers the assistant Apple has marketed since 2024 — early impressions credit the new architecture's app control and context handling while noting the usual beta rough edges. The parental-control suite has drawn broadly positive notice; the release's full verdict awaits the fall launch, when this page will need updating.
