The Apple N1 replaced the last big third-party radio in the iPhone: the Broadcom combo chip. Shipping across the iPhone 17 generation, it handles Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread on Apple's own silicon, with the company crediting it for more reliable Personal Hotspot and AirDrop — and its Thread radio wiring the iPhone directly into the smart-home mesh.

Still current: together with the C1X modem in the iPhone Air, the N1 completed the all-Apple radio stack — the first time every major transmitting chip in an iPhone came from the company's own silicon program.
