The Apple S6 rebuilt the Watch's processor on the Apple A13 generation's efficiency cores — about twenty percent faster while charging the Series 6 in half the time. It brought the U1 ultra-wideband chip and 5 GHz Wi-Fi to the wrist and ran the always-on altimeter and blood-oxygen sensing that headlined the Series 6.
The S6's A13-derived dual-core turned out to be Apple's watch workhorse: the S7 and S8 reused it essentially unchanged, making this the architecture that carried the Apple Watch for three straight generations until the S9's big rebuild.
