The Mac Studio is Apple's flagship desktop — the double-height Mac mini introduced in March 2022 to carry Ultra-class silicon, and since the Mac Pro's 2026 discontinuation, the most powerful computer Apple makes. It compresses what once required a tower into four liters on a desk, exhaust vents and all.
1 History✎
The Studio debuted alongside the Studio Display with the M1 Max and M1 Ultra — the first machine built around UltraFusion's two-die chips. The M2 generation (2023) shared the stage with the Mac Pro it would outlive; the 2025 refresh paired the M4 Max with the off-cycle M3 Ultra and its 512 GB unified-memory ceiling — the configuration that made the Studio the darling of local-AI workloads. An M5-generation refresh, expected with an M5 Ultra, is the line's anticipated next act.

It anchors the pro desk beside the Studio Display family, and its memory ceiling — not clock speed — is now the spec pros buy it for, in the age of running models locally.
