audioOS is the operating system of the [[HomePod]] — the [[tvOS]] derivative that runs Apple's smart speakers. Apple itself rarely says the name, preferring "HomePod software," but the term stuck from the OS's internal identity and marks the speaker line's membership in the [[iOS]] family tree.

= Role =

audioOS does its work invisibly: Siri, computational audio tuning, multi-room AirPlay synchronization, stereo pairing, intercom, and the smart-home hub duties that keep a HomePod listening at the center of a household. Updates ship alongside the other platforms' releases and are installed through the Home app rather than on the device itself — an operating system whose user interface is, by design, a glowing top panel and a voice.
