Kamasylvia is the forest kingdom southwest of Calpheon in the world of Black Desert, home to the elves and roughly as large as the Calpheon region itself.
It is the most closed country on the map. Kamasylvia kept outsiders out for generations, and it opened its borders only recently, after a civil war it has not finished recovering from.
The kingdom is built around a tree: the Kamasylve is the holy tree the whole culture rests on, and Grána, the capital, stands in the branches of the Old Wisdom Tree above a waterfall.
Geography
The region lies southwest of Calpheon and is mostly old forest, dense enough that a Calpheonite king called it a fortress protected by nature, and open ground is the exception rather than the rule.
Grána sits high on a cliff in the west, reached by bridges rather than roads. The Navarn Steppe opens out to the east as grassland and the Valtarra Mountains close the region to the south. The Manshaum Forest holds the wildest country, occupied by a people hostile to everyone including the elves.
The goddess and the twins
The goddess Sylvia came down into the forest with the spirits of nature and planted the Kamasylve. She blessed the land with the sun and the moon, and from that blessing came two peoples. The Ganelle carry the brightness of the sun, and the Vedir carry the darkness of the moon.
The two lived under the tree and under the protection of the spirits, and for a long time the arrangement worked; what broke it was need rather than malice.
The schism
A catastrophe left both peoples entirely dependent on the Kamasylve to survive. Desperate Vedir burned the holy tree to draw its power out directly, which nearly killed it, and it was brought back only by the forest songs sung over it.
The Vedir never recovered as a people from what they had done. The Ganelle formed the Acher Guard, sealed the borders and kept every outsider out. The most radical Vedir became the Ahib, who turned to supernatural power and rejected the old ways altogether, while those who took no side became Dark Knights and eventually left.
The Acher Guard beat the Ahib in open battle and drove them southeast. The Ahib allied with the Salun bears in that country, built a stronghold and became O'dyllita, and they returned strong enough to cut apart a Lemoria patrol at the Duzak Tunnel.
Calpheon and the opening
King Guy Seric of Calpheon saw the forest and wanted its archers. Kamasylvian bowmanship had no equal, and he pressed for a military alliance to raise the standard of his own.
Kamasylvia agreed with reluctance, and its archers took up positions on the southern fortifications and a priestess named Nelydormin led a company to the Longleaf Tree Sentry. The alliance looked outward while the kingdom was already sliding into civil war at home.
The borders opened much later, once the Kamasylve was close to restored. Queen Brolina Ornette sent word to Calpheon and to Drieghan, and the isolation ended.
The Elvia Realm
A darker version of the region was added afterward. It uses the same map with far stronger monsters and its own rewards, and adventurers choose which version of the country they enter.
The two are the same ground under different rules, which let Pearl Abyss raise the difficulty of an established region without building new land or retiring the original.
Release
Kamasylvia arrived in September 2017 and was finished by a second part in November of that year, which is why the region is sometimes described in two halves. It was the largest addition the game had made to that point outside the desert.
