Classes in Black Desert are the thirty-two characters a player can be, and the choice matters more here than in most games of its kind.
A class is not a set of statistics laid over an interchangeable body. Most are locked to a single appearance and build, so picking one decides what the character looks like as well as how they fight. Each arrives with its own weapon, its own animation set and its own introduction to the story.
That design has a cost and a benefit. A player who wants a particular look has fewer options than in a game with free character creation, but no two classes feel alike, because none of them share a move set.
Awakening and succession
Every class reaches a fork at level 56. An awakening hands the character a second weapon and a complete second skill set, while succession instead rebuilds and deepens the original one.
The two are alternatives rather than stages, and a class played down one path handles quite differently from the same class played down the other. In practice the roster of thirty-two supports twice that many ways to fight.

Musa, Maehwa and Lahn were in the game for years before it showed where they came from, and the Land of the Morning Light was built partly to give them a homeland.
The newest classes
The Agent is the most recent, added in 2026. He is a gunman built around a revolver and grenades, designed for slow, heavy shots and control of an area, and he carries a weapon called the Hexround where most classes carry magic.
He is also the brother of the Deadeye, who fights on the move. Pairing a new class with an existing one by family rather than by role is a recent habit. It gives the additions a place in the story rather than only on the character select screen.
