The Central Market is the single place adventurers in Black Desert can trade with one another. Handing an item directly to another player is not possible, so every exchange between two people passes through it.
That restriction is the point rather than a limitation. Because nothing changes hands privately, prices are visible, the game can tax every sale, and the kind of arrangement where one player quietly enriches another is difficult to construct.
The market is what connects the life skills to everyone else. A cook who never fights and a fighter who never cooks deal with each other here without ever meeting.
How it works
The market is opened from the main menu anywhere in the world, or in person from a marketplace director in a town. Goods are not carried to it: everything listed is drawn from the warehouse, which is shared by the whole family across every territory.
Moving stock into that warehouse is done through a transaction maid or butler, which can shift a substantial quantity of a single item at a time without the adventurer walking anywhere.
Prices
Nothing has a fixed price. Every item has a base price that moves with trade, rising when the item keeps selling at the top of its range and falling when it keeps going at the bottom. The market therefore reprices itself continuously from what players actually do.
The interface shows which way an item has been moving, marking recent falls and rises in different colors, which is enough to tell a seller whether to list now or wait.
Pre-orders
Popular goods rarely sit on the shelf. When something is out of stock a buyer can place a pre-order at a chosen price, and the item goes to a pre-order rather than to the open market when it next appears.
Ties are broken at random rather than by who ordered first, and the same randomization applies to the most expensive goods in the game, so no amount of speed guarantees a purchase. Very high-value listings are also queued for a short period before they process, and only one may be listed at a time for a given item and enhancement level.
Tax
The market takes a substantial cut. Thirty percent goes to the market itself and a further five percent to the territory the sale is registered in, so a seller with no bonuses collects sixty-five percent of the listed price.
Several things push that figure up. A Value Pack is the largest and most common, raising collection to a little over eighty-four percent. Family fame adds a further share as it accumulates. Two rarer items each add a few percent more: a single-use trade pass, and a ring that is among the least common things in the game.
The gap matters more than it looks. Over a long selling career the difference between sixty-five and eighty-five percent is most of a second income.
