The Apple W1 launched the W series inside the original [[AirPods]] in 2016 — the chip behind the flip-open-and-connect pairing that made truly wireless earbuds feel effortless. It managed Class 1 Bluetooth with unusually low power, synced pairing across every device on an iCloud account, and quietly did more for AirPods' success than any spec on the box.

The W1's one-tap pairing became the experience bar for the entire wireless-audio industry. Its audio duties passed to the [[Apple H1]] in 2019, while the W name continued on the Apple Watch side with the [[Apple W2]].
