The Apple S2 powered September 2016's Apple Watch Series 2 — the model that gave the Watch its identity. Its dual-core processor doubled the [[Apple S1|S1]]'s speed and its built-in GPS let the swim-proof Series 2 track runs and swims with no iPhone along, the moment the Watch pivoted from fashion accessory to fitness device.

= Legacy =

GPS-and-water-resistance became the Watch's baseline from here, and the S2's dual-core layout — one package, phone-free workouts — defined what an Apple Watch SiP had to do. Its GPS-less sibling [[Apple S1P]] carried the same cores into the entry model.
