The Apple H2 turned AirPods into a health device. Launched in 2022's AirPods Pro 2 with twice the noise cancellation of the original, its on-device processing went on to deliver Adaptive Audio, then the FDA-cleared hearing-aid capability of 2024, and — in the AirPods Pro 3 — heart-rate sensing from the ear.
= Legacy =
Still current: the H2 has carried three AirPods generations and counting, absorbing feature launches Apple once would have saved for new silicon. It is the clearest case of the company shipping one chip and growing it through software for years.
