The Apple A7, introduced with the [[iPhone 5s]] in September 2013, is the most disruptive chip Apple ever shipped: the first 64-bit processor in any smartphone, years before competitors' plans, with the Secure Enclave coprocessor that made Touch ID (and later Apple Pay and Face ID) possible. Rivals' public dismissals ("a gimmick") were followed by industry-wide roadmap rewrites.
= Legacy =
The A7 forced mobile computing's 64-bit transition on Apple's schedule and introduced the security architecture underpinning every Apple authentication feature since. Its Cyclone core's wide, desktop-like design set the philosophy that eventually produced the M series.
