The Apple A16 Bionic, introduced as a Pro-tier exclusive in the [[iPhone 14 Pro]] generation in September 2022, was the first 4-nanometer phone chip, with LPDDR5 memory and the display engine behind the Always-On, 1 Hz ProMotion lock screen and the Dynamic Island's animation budget.

The A16 embodied the two-tier silicon era it inaugurated — Pro-exclusive for a year, then the [[iPhone 15]]'s hand-me-down heart — and its efficiency-oriented gains marked the program's shift from headline speed to sustained, display-and-camera-driven engineering.
