macOS Tahoe (version 26) is the twenty-second and current release of macOS, shipped on September 15, 2025, under the year-aligned numbering that leapt the Mac from 15 to 26 alongside its sibling platforms. It wears the family's Liquid Glass redesign — translucent, refractive controls and a fully transparent menu bar — with new personalization (folder colors and icons, tinted app icons matching iOS conventions).

Spotlight received its largest update ever: filterable results, clipboard history, and hundreds of executable actions — sending messages, creating events — from the search field, plus quick keys for power users. The Phone app arrived on Mac with Hold Assist and Call Screening via Continuity, Live Activities stream from the iPhone into the menu bar, and the Games app landed with the family. One line in the release notes carried the history: Tahoe is the final macOS for Intel processors — Apple silicon only from macOS 27 onward.

Liquid Glass; the Spotlight actions overhaul; Phone on Mac and Live Activities; folder and icon personalization; Apple Intelligence expansion (live translation, Shortcuts intelligence); the Games app; Journal on Mac; and Safari/Photos design refreshes. Point releases through 26.6 have tuned the design and performance.

Still current — but its Intel farewell already marks it: Tahoe closes the architecture era Tiger's 10.4.4 opened in 2006, ending twenty years of Intel Macs with the same one-more-release grace note PowerPC received from Leopard. Its Spotlight-as-command-line direction sets up the assistant convergence its successor pursues.
