visionOS 2 is the second release of visionOS, shipped September 16, 2024. It answered the launch year's practical requests: machine-learning spatial photos generated depth from ordinary 2D shots, hand gestures opened Home View and Control Center (ending menu hunting), Mac Virtual Display grew to an ultrawide equivalent of two 4K monitors, mouse support arrived, and Personas stepped further out of the uncanny valley with better hair and complexion rendering.
Spatial photos from 2D; wrist-flip system gestures; ultrawide Mac Virtual Display; mouse and trackpad parity; improved Personas; Guest User sharing; train travel mode; and new immersive Environments (Bora Bora).
The refinement release that made the Vision Pro livable for its early adopters — the ultrawide Mac display becoming, by most accounts, the device's killer app — while the platform's price-driven audience question stayed open for the hardware side.
