tvOS 12 is the fourth release of tvOS, shipped September 17, 2018. Dolby Atmos certification made the Apple TV 4K the first device certified for both Dolby Vision and Atmos, with iTunes again upgrading libraries free; zero sign-on detected the cable broadband and logged apps in automatically; and the aerial screensavers gained location captions and a new batch shot from the International Space Station.

The Atmos-plus-Vision pairing set the home-theater reference spec, and the free-upgrade pattern (HD→4K, stereo→Atmos) became Apple's recurring library-goodwill move.
